A pet wellness checkup is very similar to your annual physical at the doctor’s office. Your pet receives a physical exam to make sure they are staying healthy and don’t have any hidden problems that could become much worse if untreated. At Arrow Dog & Cat Hospital, we provide pet wellness care for all stages of your pet’s life — from the kitten/puppy stage to the adult stage to their senior years.
Annual Wellness Exams
Pet wellness care starts with a physical exam of your animal. The veterinarian will check everything from your pet’s nose to its tail to look for potential health issues. This will include listening to your pet’s heart and lungs with a stethoscope, examining their eyes, ears, and nose, checking their coat for any problems, and so on. Your pet’s teeth will be checked, to see whether they need any dental care. If the vet identifies a potential problem, additional testing such as blood work might be recommended.
Be ready to answer some questions for the veterinarian, since you are around your pet all the time. For example, has your pet exhibited any major behavior changes recently? Are they getting enough exercise? Has your pet gained or lost a lot of weight, or has their appetite changed?
If your pet is in generally good health, a wellness exam will only be recommended on a yearly basis. If a pet is getting extremely old, or if they have a health condition that requires ongoing care, the veterinarian may ask them to come in more frequently for exams.
Parasite Control
Preventing parasites is a year-round concern for us because we want your pet to stay healthy all year long. Our pet wellness program includes parasite screening and administering flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives. Tapeworm, roundworm, hookworm, and whipworms are all parasites that are fairly common here in California, and all of these can cause serious problems for your pet.
Vaccinations
Keeping your dog or cat up-to-date on core vaccines is another component of pet wellness care. When your puppy or kitten needs their first vaccines, Arrow Dog & Cat Hospital is here to help! From the first series of vaccinations to adult and senior boosters, we can provide core and non-core vaccines for your pet at their wellness checkup.
We would love to be a part of your pet’s annual wellness care here at Arrow Dog & Cat Hospital! Give our office a call to schedule your pet’s next appointment.
