Wellness care starts with a physical exam of your furry friend. The veterinarian will check everything from your pet’s nose to their tail to look for potential health issues. This will include listening to your pet’s heart and lungs with a stethoscope, examining their eyes, ears, and nose, checking their coat for any problems, and so on.
For puppies and kittens, we recommend exams every three to four weeks, beginning at six to eight weeks of age and continuing until they’re about four to five months old. At each exam, your veterinarian will check their growth, administer any needed vaccinations, and perform any needed treatments, such as deworming or parasite testing.
For healthy adult pets, a wellness exam is recommended on a yearly basis. For senior pets or pets with chronic health conditions, we recommend semi-annual exams and regular bloodwork.
Vaccinations
Cats and dogs require different types of vaccinations because they are at risk of different kinds of diseases. Core vaccines are recommended for all cats and dogs, while others are recommended based on your pet’s medical history, physical examination, and lifestyle.
Core Vaccinations for Dogs
- Rabies
- Distemper and Parvovirus (DHPP)
- Leptospirosis

Core Vaccinations for Cats

Your veterinarian will work with you to determine the best vaccine protocol for your pet and their lifestyle.
Spay & Neuter
Arrow Dog & Cat Hospital encourages you to spay and neuter your pets. It’s one of the best things you can do for the health of your dog or cat!
Why Spay and Neuter Your Pets?
Every year in the U.S., millions of healthy but unwanted dogs and cats are put to sleep in animal shelters because there simply isn’t enough room to keep them all and not enough homes to adopt them. Having your pet spayed or neutered helps to alleviate this problem as well as provide health and behavioral benefits for your pet. Ideally, spays and neuters should be done when pets are young—about eight weeks of age for cats and six months for dogs, though your vet will determine the best time for your pet.
